The Cenobites are not quite what Frank is expecting: Scarred beyond belief and sexless, and he reasonably horrified by this revelation. When he manages to solve it and the Cenobites appear, things take a turn for the worse for Frank. ![]() The box is believed to open a dimension of untold pleasures ruled by entities known as Cenobites. He is solving a puzzle box known as the Lemarchand configuration (or the Lament Configuration as it is known in the films). In the first chapter we are introduced to Frank Cotton, criminal and sadomasochist. It is probably better known now when it was adapted into film in 1987 under the title of "Hellraiser", which was also directed and written by Clive Barker himself, and many sequels came after it. While this one is shorter than "The Damnation Game", his first novel, it still has the hallmarks that are characteristic of Barker's work. Of all of the Clive Barker novel's, the one that most fascinated me the most was "The Hellbound Heart", published in 1986. ![]()
